Rebates

Cookson Hills Electric Cooperative has been offering rebates for Electric Water Heaters and Energy Star rated Room Air Conditioners, Dual-Fuel & Mini-Split Heat Pumps and Ground Source Heat Pumps since 2010.  The rebate program entitled  "Take Control and Save" is administered through Associated Electric Cooperative Inc., a generation and transmission cooperative, whom we purchase our wholesale power from.  

2017 REBATE SUMMARY:

Rebate request must be submitted to the cooperative within 90 days of purchase

ENERGY STAR RATED ROOM AIR CONDITIONER ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Must be a member in good standing of the cooperative
  • Rebate is limited to cooperative services that purchase 6,000 or more kilowatt-hours on an annual basis from the cooperative
  • Cooperative must verify an ENERGY STAR rated room air conditioning unit is purchased
  • Limit of one (1) rebate per member address/location
  • A separate application must be completed for each residence
  • The rebate will apply for the purchase of one new ENERGY STAR rated unit or for the replacement of an existing unit
  • Rebates are available for existing and new homes 
  • $50.00 rebate

ENERGY EFFICIENT ELECTRIC WATER HEATER CRITERIA

  • Must be a member in good standing of the cooperative
  • Rebate is limited to cooperative services that purchase 6,000 or more kilowatt-hours on an annual basis from the cooperative
  • The energy efficiency rating of the new unit must meet Department of Energy (DOE) standards at the time of manufacture
  • Available for new construction or replacement of an existing electric water heater
    1. If the new unit replaces an existing water heater, the efficiency rating of the old unit must be less than 0.9 efficiency
  • Tankless water heaters are NOT eligible for this program
  • Gas to electric water heater conversions are eligible for this program
  • Hybrid heat pump water heaters are eligible for this program
  • Limit of up to two (2) per member address/location
  • A separate application must be completed for each member address/location
  • Rebates are available for existing and new homes
  • Rebate applies only to 40 gallon or larger electric water heating units
  • Replacing a gas water heater with an electric water heater is not eligible for a rebate
  • $50.00 rebate

DUAL-FUEL (Air Source) Heat Pump (DFHP) & MINI-SPLIT HEAT PUMPS (Unit must use fossil fuel for backup) CRITERIA

  • Must be a member in good standing of the cooperative
  • Rebate is limited to cooperative services that purchase 6,000 or more kilowatt-hours on an annual basis from the cooperative
  • The structure in which the member resides must be a permanent structure on a permanent foundation on the land owned by the member
  • Available for:
    1. New construction – homes and buildings
    2. Replacement of electric central air conditioner or electric resistance heat
    3. Replacement of an existing air conditioner or dual-fuel heat pump
  • Supplemental heat for dual-fuel heat pump must be natural gas, propane or fuel oil and be controlled by an automatic thermostat.  Note:  wood burning systems and electric resistance units are not eligible to be used as backup for heating on dual fuel systems
  • Mini-split units with backup electric resistant heat are not eligible for a rebate
  • The heat pump must be qualified with an ENERGY STAR + Plus 2 rating, be installed by a certified dealer and meet the following efficiency standards for rebates:

2016    ENERGY STAR +2 rating       16.5 Seer

  • $150 per ton, limited to 10 tons residential

GROUND-SOURCE HEAT PUMPS (GSHP) CRITERIA

  • Must be a member in good standing of the cooperative
  • Rebate is limited to cooperative services that purchase 6,000 or more kilowatt-hours on an annual basis from the cooperative
  • The structure in which the member resides must be a permanent structure on a permanent foundation on the land owned by the member
  • Available for:
    1. New construction – homes and buildings
    2. Replacement of electric resistance heat
    3. Replacement of an existing dual-fuel or ground-source heat pump
    4. Replacement of existing natural gas or propane heating system
  • Equipment must be installed by a certified dealer and meet the ENERGY STAR Plus 2 rated unit December 31, 2011
  • The heat pump may be used to replace existing heat pumps, electric resistance or fossil fuel equipment in the facility
  • Rebate for new loop and indoor unit systems; the total maximum amount is $750 per ton. Rebates are limited to 10 tons per residential facility
  • For the replacement of the indoor ground source heat pump unit only (does not include loop system), a $150 per ton will apply limited to 10 tons per residential facility

Rebate applications are available here and in both offices.

Members are required to complete an application, include a copy of the original dated sales receipt, and a completed rebate form submitted within 90 days of purchase that includes the product name and model number.

Remember, your product must meet all qualifications stated on the rebate application to qualify for the CHEC rebate.  Rebates will be in the form of a credit to your electric account after verification for water heater and room air conditioner rebates.  Rebates on heat pumps will be in check form.  When you buy ENERGY STAR rated products, you are buying one of the most energy efficient products on the market.
